  • Cassius

I was round at my friends house yesterday and his neighbour is Rex Goddard the owner of Cassius and recyclopse anyone heared of these robots. Cassius was on series 1, 2 and 3 I think.
I went over to his house to make paper rockets and he was the builder of brum! I saw it on his table. He also did the upgrade to K9 to make remote control!

      Re: Cassius

Recyclopse was series 1, Cassius series 2 and Cassius 2 series 3. I think he also built a Cassius 3 but didn't use it as he fell out with Mentorn? Ask him to bring them along to some shows for display haha.

He was a kids tv presenter for a bit too if I remember right as well as building Brum.

                Re: Cassius

It's funny how anal the mentorn crew were about some things and yet never bothered with others. Think I saw a good two or three robots be activated accidentally at various times when I was there over the years and yet we were asked to take the robot outside when we were re-spraying the paintjob. It would seem that an aircraft hanger doesn't count as a well ventilated area :P

                  Re: Cassius

When I was about 10 I went round to Rex's house, as he lives quite close. That was when I was first getting into robots so he showed me some stuff. Really nice, generous guy, plus I think I got to see Cassius 2 (or it ma have been 3?) half built in his workshop. That's when I really got bitten with the Robot bug!

Did he ever compete with Cassius 3? I went to one of these non-televised events ages ago in Norwich and I think he was there with Cassius 3.

                            Re: Cassius

Totally agree. When I was younger all my robot designs were for heavyweights, despite not having the money, space, time and know-how, but that was what fought on TV so that was all I had to go by. It wasn't really until his robot challenge articles started in the Real Robots magazines that I began to see the practicalities of feathers (and even then, it took me until the 19th or 20th issue before it caught my eye).

I wouldn't put my interest in robot combat down to him entirely - the show as a whole was a major factor in that - but the guidance in his articles and the 2004 challenge were instrumental in physically getting me started in all this

Hey me too! Almost exactly. Except the robot I built back then never got completed.

After I have made Bitza I think I'll finish it, just for laughs. I'll call it Bitza 0.5, since it was the original....
