Does anyone know whether any of these motors are suitable for a heavyweight?

        Re: Motors

although it says 800 W , i think this is probably at stall given the size of the motor. Would probably been a little too much in a FW and would just about get a HW moving IMO.

          Re: Motors

it has nothin to do with motor size, Storm II and Behemoth use tiny LEM130 they're 3KW, if it says 800W you can only take it as read that it is 800W. Gearing it is important get it right and yes it will happily move a heavyweight.

The speed 300 50g motor spins are 30,000rpm on 6v on 12v with a big planetary gearbox few of them in line would shift a a heavy, not very fast and with little to no power but they would move a heavy.

your transmission is one of the most important things you have to build in a robot, I think 550rpm is about perfect speed out of a gearbox for a robot will give u a desent speed and plenty of torque.

            Re: Motors

Hi Will, on the website that the 24v motor appears they say you can use a 40amp speed controller, presumably safely.
If that is the case then the motor can't draw a lot of current and would be weak in a heavyweight. (unless geared right down which would make it slow)
Wottys (180), Robotechs and Vanteks (spelt wrong?) deliver around twice that current and how many of us have blown Robotechs or Vanteks on Bosch 750s?
Just a thought before you send your hard earned spondulics to the USA.
            MIke.

just had a look for lem 130 on the web to see how good they are and they are over £1000 !
must be cheeper than that ?
                stick to bosch !

                  Re: Motors

Will these motors are High RPM (5400RPM) depending on the size of wheel u use will depend on the final RPM ur looking for out of ur gearbox, 15mph is plenty of speed
because of the high RPM you will be able to gear it down enough to use in a heavy, if your going for 4WD maybe 1 motor a wheel,
ignore the recommended controller rubbish, if that was true for every motor people wouldnt go above 40A on the Bosch GPAs as thats they're recommended ampage too, rubbish! we've seen our boschs pull 100A on start up

put them on a good controller (which im sure you will) and ur robot will fly

                    Re: Motors

Thanks Craig. What drove us to look around was that our old littons in Maelstrom will give up the ghost at some point (geared at 12:1 on our big old wheels !) Mags are nice (the old addage you pay for what you get) and the CIMs...well ask Trev for his stories !!

We cant fit boschs and seeing as they seem to becoming harder to get hold of we thought we'd have a look around (also where do we get the retaining kits now ?)

We remember technobots used to offer the 'UNITE' 'MY' motors some time back so maybe somebody had some experience of them ? (Marco used the smaller ones in a featherweight we think).

We hadnt heard of the Currie Technologies ones. But with the 'theoretical' power of the 1000w ones we thought these my be an option and what a good price (Dad works for a US company so can get them shipped to mates house and next time he travels he can get them !)

re speedo We are a WOTTY convert.....just back from repair from heavyweight final as Thz hit us so hard it knocked the PIC chip out of its socket - hence we lost drive !! - Ians now glued ours in !

So what do you think worth taking a chance ?

                    Cheers Will (and Ian)

I think Swanny made some retaining kits try him?

if ur replacing Littons defo Mags S28-400 but mags will also need a magnet retaining put in as Big Nipper and Gary can testify the magnets can move or shatter
there is another option but i cant for the life of me remember what they are! will post if i remember what they are
