      Bosch 400 motors

spent the day in the workshop today, after alot of thinking/measuring and weighing decided to fit 2 750 watt bosch motors which shouldnt be too tricky of a job, and remove the 4 400watt motors. this robot has 4 wheels, and i dont know if we should mount 1 motor at rear and one at front, or mount both at rear, (it needs to have the four wheels) but im wondering how will it drive with 2 motors at the back, and the front just free wheeling. (WOULD IT TURN?, i really doubt it) the wheels are similar to kart wheels. i didnt want to run long chains from rear to front if i didnt have to, just because im worried of snapping chains/reliability issues.

...possibly a pointless question but would belts cause the same issues as chains?

i think belts would be better yeah, alot more give in them, just wondering how much work i would need to do lol. also chains im better with as i can take links out to get the right length, but belts maybe a bit harder to source..

            http://www.hpcgears.com/http://www.hpcgears.com/

You should be able to find any length of chain, belt etc etc on there and if not they might be able to make you something custom

is 10mm mild steel tough enough for a hw as front protection,a piece along the front at the bottom like a wedge.

Cabrakan was armoured in 6mm (I think) steel and it seemed to hold up incredibly well, even to Thor, so Id say so.

6mm? so hopefully 10mm will be ok,cheers, i was worried with it being the front bottom armour if it would get chewed up a bit when going head to head.

Well, we have the bulkheads made from thick HDPE which also act as frame supports, but the armour is certainly no more than 6mm steel. Thor managed to bend it in parts where it wasnt supported by the bulkheads, and eventually a combination of a hit on our link and bending the steel into the wheel disabled us, but it was all superficial damage and fixable simply with a big hammer, so yeah, I reakon 10mm steel would hold up fine, at least til the spinners come out to play.
