  • Featherweight Nelly rebuild.

Having recently bought Nelly the Ellybots featherweight shell, the plan is to replace / restore and rebuild, and hopefully get it back fighting again.
Not going to be a quick build, and might go for a different weapon, but planning on learning /figuring bits out along the way.

It won't be keeping the Nelly name.

Neat. Certainly looks like a robust shell. Looks like just the shell parts, what do you plan to put back into it?

Yep, just the shell. There's a few bits that definitely need replacing, as it's cracked / missing bits.
I've previously built the budget build featherweight, and I know Nelly used drill motors before, so will be taking apart the budget and reuse afew parts from that, plus borrowing a few ideas from the Haynes book too.
I'm thinking of going for a flipper rather than the previous hammer, but no firm plans yet.

It'll be keeping the eyes 😀
What do people use for cutting hdpe? It's 15mm and I'm guessing a jigsaw may not be the best, plus think I'd struggle with the straight lines 😄
Was thinking maybe a band saw or something similar - but ideally at the lower price range as still trying to keep it fairly budget.
If anyone has recommendations, please let me know.

HDPE can be worked with normal wood working tools, for straight lines I’m currently using a standard wood saw (a hacksaw can make neater cuts), for the wiggly bits I have a jigsaw with wood blades, cutting a straight line takes practice though! Maybe you could clamp a straight edge to the piece and follow it as a guide? For reference I’m currently using a combination of 18 and 25mm cut from pipes.

There is this guide to working with the stuff which is quite detailed: https://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/thr...work-with-hdpe

Might have to dig out the hand tools and have a go - see how it goes
And thanks for the link - will have a look at that later too.
