  • New bot builder

Hi all, I am new to bot building so I apologise in advance for any stupid questions I may ask in the near future.

Me and my daughter have been going to the Maidstone extreme robots for a couple of years and now want to make our own feather weight.

I plan on using 2 550 motors and the batteries from the new style Argos drills. Could anyone recommend a suitable pair of speed controllers for these motors. (I don't know the max stall amps of the motors) I would ideally like the speed controllers to have BEC power for the receiver so I don't need a separate power supply.

I will be using a Spektrum DX7 transmitter if that matters.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Theres a discussion in the link below on a Facebook group called "Unofficial robot wars" regarding this topic.

Ive personally used BB30s and FeatherTwos before, not sure if you can get hold of them atm

Thanks for the link and advice. I have had a look and it seems some people use these :

Although the esc can run 2 motors I am assuming I will still need one per motor as I will need each motor to turn a different way from each other when I want the bot to turn. I have read that I will need to do some sort of channel mixing on the DX7.

I only see one channel wire with which to control the ESC, so you will need two as far as i can tell.

Ive never used these however so cant tell you much more about them

          Hi,

I can confirm that the Hobbywing esc mentioned only has one channel for the receiver. It might be better looking at the FeatherTwo esc for controlling two motors with one esc.

          Hope this helps,

          Sam
