Red Brick ESC Programming

Hi,

Has anyone managed to successfully program a Red Brick ESC? I’ve got the 125A version and am trying to set the number of lipo cells (it seems to be currently set to 7s so keeps cutting out with my 6s pack), but the sequence of beeps doesn’t in any way resemble what the manual says should happen. Google also isn’t providing any help other than showing other people have the same issue as me!

I've got a little bit of experience in programming the 100A v2 version. I don't recall if the SimonK code specifies the number of cells in it, I'll check a little later on tonight.

There is a function in the SimonK assembly which can hard code how many cells it is expecting (CELL_COUNT) and get it to bleep how many cells it is detecting before arming (BLIP_CELL_COUNT) so I'd look at setting those and then flashing your Red Bricks. For what it is worth, my 100A V2s work fine on a 6S LiFe setup with the flashed firmware.

Hmm I wasn’t planning on flashing then but have got the AVR programmer from hacking TZ85As so guess I could. Mine is the version 1 I think, guess I need to find a diagram for the programming pins

Hi, thought I’d drop my question here as it’s very relevant and may help. Lol.

iv got a redbrick 200a v2 running a prop drive 50/50. Tinkered with some settings but the beeps were’t really making sense to what the manual said. Anyway it works now but I’m not convinced it’s correct.

Getting some strange whining sounds from the motor when going up and down throttle. Also ran it for about a minute with no load and it was really quite hot which I thought was strange with no load.
I havn’t flashed it with anything it’s oretty much straight out the box.

Any help or advice programming these To work with the prop50/50

Sounds as if the out of box motor timing is out for the motor potentially, what voltage is going to it? Given that there are 7 poles on the old 5060 version apparently (https://hobbyking.com/en_us/ntm-prop...0kv-2665w.html), I'd imagine this motor would be the same or similar so looking at the 200A instructions (https://cdn-global-hk.hobbyking.com/...9X43349X43.pdf), you need to look at the timing modes for it.

As an aside, I can't say for the 200A version but on the 100A version, I use a USB programming tool (the same sort as the one used on the TZ85A to make them brushed) to flash the ESC with (this specifically: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/usbasp-a...occessors.html).

Yeh I was wondering if it was something to do with timing or poles..
apparently these 200a v2 should work perfectly out the box with these 50/50 motors.
so I think I may have accidentally changed some setting when looking at the wrong set of instructions for it.
iv just done a default factory reset on the esc and it seems the same... ish lol. Ran motor for about a minute up and down throttle and I was still doing the high pitch whiring / whining sound.. (almost like a siren going up and down) and got slightly warm to touch.

ill look into the exact specs of the motor now and see. Should be easier now I have the correct instructions for the esc lol.

Problem is I have no basis of comparison because Iv never used brushless before or the esc and motor. All I know is my brushless drill doesn’t make that sound or get warm with no load lol.

Hiya. I got my head around it in the end. There are 3 different downloadable instructions with the V2. 2 of them are completely useless and don’t apply to the model..
Im still getting the strange high pitched hum? but after setting it up at robodogo and one of the lads from team Reality having a listen he didn’t seem to think it was much of a problem although did think it was strange. I have since brought another red brick and another motor for spares so will set those up too and see if there the same.
