  • When can Spinners be used?

Hi everyone, I am in the process of designing / building my first featherweight and would like to put a spinner on it. However I am not sure when the spinner can be used. I believe Robot Live events do not allow spinners not sure about Extreme Robot events. Are there other events which do?
Basically is it worth putting a spinner on???

Extreme Robots allow spinners, but they have a speed limit on it. But as far as I know Robots Live doesn't.

Hi Cliff. Robots Live currently don't allow spinners in their arena. As Sean said, Extreme Robots allow spinners, as do Robochallenge at the featherweight championships (but that's only one event a year). If I were you, I would look at the event calendar, see what events you can get to, and make a decision based on that. You wouldn't want to build a spinner only to find out you can only get to Robots Live events.

Thanks gents, this is what I suspected, so back to the drawing board for some amendments...lol. I'll stay clear of spinners and look at alternatives.

          Hi Cliff,
Extreme robots have a lower tip speed limit for HW and MW. For FW there is a 250mph tip speed limit as per Robot wars for HW. Extreme Robots are holding 7 events this year and Robochallenge 1;Insomnia.I believe Robots live will hold 3 open events(non spinner)

However Robodojo will be building a spinner capable FW arena, funding is in place and we have quotes from suppliers the only delay at the moment are the event commitments we have at Team Conker through August and September. That said we intend to hold our first FW event late November early December. After that there will be at least four events a year to justify the expenditure. That woiuld make 12 FW spinner evnts next year if the current sequence is repeated and just 3 non spinner events. Hope to see you at the Robodojo event next Sunday when I can give you more detail.

            Cliff.
To add to Ians comment, RoboDojo will not be having an apply/acceptance structure like other events.
For example it is on a 'first sign up, first in' basis,.
if we constantly hit maximum capacity, then we will put on more events.
Currently looking at one FW event (spinner capable) every two months.

The Dutch Robot Games currently have a FCC FW arena, but we are working on a new/better arena for our upcoming FW European Championships on 29-30 September in Gent, Belgium. We don't have a limit on any weapon allowed by the FRA-ruleset. We have about 1-2 big events a year, with several demos during the year.

The German Robot Association have a limited energy FCC FW arena, I think the current energy limit is 1.5-3 kJ, They also have 1-2 events a year in the Dortmund Area in Germany.

Brilliant, thank you Ian / Keith for the clarification. RoboDojo seems to be exactly what Yorkshire and surrounding counties require. Well done guys, looking forward to meeting up Sunday 15th July.
