  • New Parts? / Hello

Well, first off I just want to say hello. My name is Chad; I am a builder from Las Vegas, Nv USA. I found way over here and have been looking around. I have to say that you guys build some really awesome bots! ALOT different from the ones over here, but still really cool! I hope that I will be able to use some things I learn here and apply them to what I build. I also hope that I might be able to help any of you all. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I build in the 120pound, 60pound, 30pound, 12pound, 3pound, 1pound and 150gram classes. So this area seemed best to post a hello in.

I have been reading through some of yalls posts and have seen a lack of a good ESC for featherweight size bots or some little problems with the ones you have. We have a new company here in the US that is making some awesome little ESCs: http://www.banebots.comwww.banebots.com. They have an ESC (speedo) that is awesome for motors in the speed 400 range. Keep an eye on this site though because they are going to have new products available soon such as larger ESCs and random parts.

So ya, if yall need any US info feel free to ask. And expect some pneumatic questions from me, because pneumatics is something that is not widely used here, but something that I would like to get into.

I am glad that I found this place. The only hard part is trying to figure out what you all are talking about sometimes! Yall speak a different english :-p.

I im glad that the parts showed up after what seemed like a year long shipping ordeal. Sorry again about that! Have you put any of them to good use? And that bot on your profile looks really nice. I like the wheels! What do you use for the thread?

Do you mean thread or tread?

If thread.. then the wheels are powered by a 18v drill motor which has a custom milled hub which screws onto a modified harden output shaft on the drills gearbox which has been rebuilt since I took photos last so its all metal. Then the wheels themselves rotate around a fixed shaft via. two ball bearings pressed into the wheel. The wheels are all hand turned and have a custom built in pulley so everything is one piece.

If tread... then the Ali wheels are going to be cleaned and sent off to have a layer of Vulkalon coating, which is a very grippy rubber compound which is molded and bounded to the wheel.

lol yeah the shipping was a kafuffle but the motor is currently in the bot now to power the drum at 24v lol. Anyway im still waiting to see how Skewer turns out, slow building as well but I remember you saying you had financial and weight problems with it.

Hey Tim!!! I think I have talked to you a time or 2

Bot looks good Chris. Did you make the wheels yourself? Them things look super beefy! Is that AL T that you have bolted some AL sheet to, to make the sides, bottom, and top of the bot?

Skewer is actually full steam ahead. The custom valve that I will use is getting made as I type. But, as usual weight is REALLY close! My new idea is to make the whole thing a true walker to give me a 100% weight bouns. I am working on the Leg CAD now. But when I get everything done and if it seems to be over 60pounds I will make it a 60lb walker which will give me a 120lb max weight! Which is really because then I would have weight to armor my legs! I will probably have a 6.3mm Titanium shell and im not sure even that is enough. I put a picture of the CAD on my profile if you want to take a look.

                New Parts? / Hello

Yeah its Ali plate with some Ali T shape extruding attached for the simple reason that I couldnt get hold of some thick Ail to mill out at the time and the top and bottom also attach to it, but with accurate measurements its fine and very light now ive milled some waste material out.

The picture ive posted are my wheels before I lightened them, they was way to heavy so now they are over half the weight of the originals. The lightened ones are the ones on my profile. (oh btw the picture of the Vulkalon wheels belong to another robot owned by one Mr Stu!)

That CAD looks awesome like a mini Judge, well its good to see progress. What is the stats on the custom valve you are having made?.
