Mixing motors

I am looking to get two motors running in unison for my FW, as far as I know I have 2 options, a mixer or a transmitter with a mixing option. I would like to know if anyone has a recommendation for what would be a good option.

A transmitter I have been looking at is: http://www.giantshark.co.uk/product/...r-heli-version. I would rather get this if it can mix motors since I can the batteries I need.

Aside from this, is there something more suitable that I can use?

Well I have set an email to Giant shark. From an images there is a section with two buttons labelled mode so maybe it can. I hope it can, since it saves me having to order things from two separate sites.

It looks as though it would. Seems very similar to my futaba 6EX actually. These cheap ones are looking far more impressive these days.

Just got the reply to the message, and it can't mix them. I've had a look at the futaba 6EX, but its a bit out of my price range. Any suggestions, I don't really want to spend too much more than around £40-80 preferably with 3+ channels.

well if you like that transmitter then just buy a v-tail mixer that does it externally.

Plug in the two channels to be mixed and it will mix em. I can't comment on how good the above one is I haven't used a v-tail mixer in years

Just something to take into consideration here, if you use an internal mixer (i.e. through the tx/rx) it will limit the voltage to each motor by 50%. This means that your robot will be half as fast and powerful. However if you use an external mixer (i.e. one that is separate from the tx/rx) you wont encounter this problem.

I would also say that if this is your first robot, I can imagine that your just dying to get something moving. So for the time being either would probably be OK

That's not entirely the case, the cheap 4-channel Giant Shark transmitters mix at 100%. And I've bought an external mixer in the past that mixes at 50% fwd/back. The Giant Shark mixer linked above is cheap but I've had situations in the past where they cut out if when the stick is pushed right to the diagonal (an action that should normally just make one wheel turn). On all occasions they've been used with Botbitz controllers though so I suspect it may a problem similar to the mixing issue with the DX6i and TZ85s. Haven't tried the mixer with a different brand of speed controller - probably should to confirm the issue.

It's slightly more expensive but guaranteed to do the job.

If you don't want the fancy 6-channel controller from Giant Shark, the cheaper 4-channel one I mentioned has mixing: http://www.giantshark.co.uk/product/...e2-transmitter

It's worth mentioning though that the Giant Shark receivers can have problems connecting to the transmitter when you're trying to arm up at the same time as 15-20 other featherweights. They just seem to get flooded with all the other 2.4Ghz signals flying around.

Thank you very much Phil, this would be ideal. My only worry is that it may not arrive on time for the Maidstone event. Fingers crossed I can get it here before then.
