Esc Question

Hi all wired up my feather today with 2 new esc's unknown make as they were cheap off of eBay.They seem to work fine but have one small problem snag the forward to reverse seems to take a day. You push pull throttle forward its okay soon as you pull throttle back nothing happens you then have to almost return to idol position then pull back again for it to reverse. So my question being is this a common problem or is this just cheap Esc's.

These are the ESC's i have got and they are powering 12v drill motors with 75mm blue wheels

If I think about it, it looks like it's a very bad reprogrammed brushless speedo with a wire cut off.

This is standard behaviour for a ESC for RC cars. Apply reverse and it will brake, go to neutral and then you can actually reverse.

If you can reprogram the ESC with the function "forward/reverse no brake" you should be fine, but most can only do "Forward/brake/reverse" or "forward/reverse off" (race mode where you are not allowed to reverse).

completely wired up my bot today using the esc's in question and with a few tweeks on my dx6i and seems to not be so bad. Long as your using the mixing option on the right stick all seems good. Though not smooth as you'd like but usable.

Do you think the same thing could be achieved with a generic plane mixer that you can buy? My transmitter is one of those cheap Giant Shark ones, and it has no mixing or anything... looking to upgrade to one of those Orange RX ones from Hobbyking, mind.
These speed controllers are a bit of a pain, I have to say!

then they do have a mixing option. Open the battery compartment cover and look in the little gap at the top left-hand corner. There should be a small silver and white slide switch there that allows you to turn mixing on/off. When on, this will give you single stick control on the right-hand stick.

Alternatively, yes an external mixer (that plugs in between your ESCs and receiver) will do the job. Giant Shark also have a pretty cheap one that works: http://www.giantshark.co.uk/product/...--v-tail-mixer

Fantastic, thank you! I've got the mixing set up, still got the issues with the ESCs going into brake mode though, may just pay out for some better ESCs, though I have a feeling they'll be a tad more expensive...
I've spoken with a few sellers of these particular ones, and they don't seem to know how to program them, and the instructions that come with them only give a wiring diagram...

I do now have some photos of the internals of these ESCs, but I'm not sure how different they are to the others... I'll post them in a bit after I manage to get them off my phone.

They can handle 4s running drill motors, but they definitely aren't 320A!
