Spektrum steering wheel tank/skid steer mixing?

Has anyone successfully setup a Spektrum DX2/DX3/DX3s/DX3r/DX4s steering wheel transmitter mixer setting for robots tank/skid steer mixing without the use of an external v-tail mixer?

If so, what settings have you used?

On my DX3R, I set the master mix to throttle, the slave mix to steering and then both values to +50%. The manual wasn't very helpful but this mix worked perfectly first time. I can post some menu screen shots if that's not completely clear.
