  • Water Jet cutting

I've finally found a local shop which has a water jet cutting facility...been searching for ages to find one and it seems he's the only one on the island!

Paying him a visit in the afternoon with a titanium sample for a test cut to check if the machine is capable to cut throgh it, apparently he never handled the material before...

Got no idea of how much it will cost as the guy from the shop said cost depends from the time it takes to cut.
My question is, does anyone have an idea of the charges involved, say x £ per inch... just for me to compare, cant get another quote as this guy seems to be the only one on the island.

The cutting time for waterjet is depending on material and the thickness thereoff. As accuracy has a serious influence.
More holes add cutting time, as blow-trough takes more time that cutting itself.

Setup time is another cost that is added.

I recently coughed up €150 for 2 disks in 8mm thin Cruesabro 4800. But that was lasercut

Just curious, why would you laser cut a disk when it ha problems of overheating the material causing changes it it's hardness potentially making the disk brittle when water jet cutting doesn't have this problem? Is the hardening caused by the laser cutting useful as it stops the disk from blunting?

Been at the water jetting shop this afternoon, good guy - he took a lot of interest when I explained what I need his services for...we spent almost an hour talking! He actually builds the machines himself and exports them...nice work.

It was no problem for the machine to cut through the titanium, he said its similar to steel.
He quoted me a price of €15/m length, the material I'm cutting is 4mm thick gr5 Ti. What you think, is it a fair price? I think that for all the cutting I require it will cost me around €100, not too bad I recon

Good to know I'm not paying through the nose, he actually told me I could have got a cheaper quote had I used a plate/sheet rather than small pieces of scrap to cut my required parts from. Small price to pay as the material came for free!
