As part of my course in college I am designing and building a robot. I hope to use some claws as a weapon and am not too certain how I am going to operate them. Ideally I would use a linear actuator, but I want to try doing it on the cheap and have a nice motor out of an old hoist. Can anybody give me some ideas as to how I can do this? I have attached a picture to show what I have got so far.

I will probably include a build diary as a thread so you can all laugh at my pathetic efforts.

" so you can all laugh at my pathetic efforts"

No need for talking like that. We are a friendly bunch on here.

The best example kicking around atm of an electric claw machine would be Jamies carcincus (no one really knows how to spell it properly). But check out his build thread Rogue two robots in the build section for a good look at the insides of it.

Carcinus has been through many iterations but I think Jamie has finally found a system that reliably works!

I think their my old claws off the first ReAvenger I built!

I powered them by a actuator, those claws are 3mm wall box section and weigh about 1kg each, tough old things they are

It works, but still not the most powerful system. It never's really been a serious bot though. I'll sort out some pictures shortly and get back to your email

Yes indeed they are, it has taken me this long to get to using them.
