  • Motor Trouble

    Hi

Im building a FW for an IVA project and so I can fight it, but I have had trouble getting motors that match, and when I found some that did, it was gonna cost me 30 quid, which is 3/5 of my college budget for this thing, so I am considering Paul Coopers WW motors on Technobots. Can anyone give me a 1st hand opinion of them before I buy them

Well Anthor option would be drill motors you can find some quite cheaply in Argos or any DIY shop

I brought 10 of Pauls motors, they work great but you may want to make a custom wheel mount for them.

When you say a custom wheel mount, what do you mean ? I planed on having it attached to an inner bulkhead with the custom made wheel bolted and screwed to the motor taper as shown in the Real Robots mag,

heres a slight bit of motor trouble as well.

a friend of mine has a set of two dewalt motors for a spinner (18v kind) and he is looking to remove the gears and put a pulley onto it.

BUT i remember seeing on some website, i believe it might have been ewans, that there was a pulley that had the gears cross section cut into the hole in the middle. anyone know where to get these?

                Assuming you mean this:

I think he made these himself, with a small file or similar. Ewan can probably verify this.

Are the WW motors from Techno-bots a matching left and right pair ? I understand wiper motors go slightly slower backwards, which Id rather not have

i think your best bet is probably standard drill motors, good in both directions, lightweight and just as cheap! and hey, you even get batteries with the drills

                          why not?

You can get drills for a tenner and they come with the motor, gearbox, battery and charger!

                            Motor Trouble

I made my gear mount myself

The wiper motors Paul sells go the same speed both ways I think, so no problem there. The only problem I have encounted is that the length of thread on the output shaft is not enough for a strong mount so I will probably make a custom shaft to mount onto the threaded section.

Drill motors are easy to modify and Im afraid youll probably have to buy whole drills as there aint many places which sell drill gearboxes and motors. Try places like Index, Woolworths (Big W) etc... Drills do work really well and Ive brought at least 18 by now

                            Regards, Ewan

Ok, I suppose I had better get some drills, but for 2x 10 quid drills, thats gonna put me about 30 quid over my 50 quid budget (one the college set me, its what they are willing to pay), but hey, if it works, who am I to complain ?
