  • Help! Again!

Im trying to build a featherweight, called MicroGore, and heres the summary:

An invertible box-on-wheels with horizontal grabbing claws.

Please, I need to know what speed controllers, motors, batteries, hydraulics, and armour I should use! Im looking up on it but at the rate Im going now itll take 4 lifetimes!

    Help! Again!

Unless your prepared to spend over £1000 or raise over £1000 just for the Hydraulics for the weapon, i wouldnt start. LOL!.

Batteries, take a look at overlander.com they do great Nicad batteries.
Motors, wiper motors or take a look at Drill Motors. Get 2 cordless drills and take em apart and use the motors and gear boxes from them, cheap and fast and powerful enough for a feather weight. Armour, no less than 5mm poly or 4mm ali. 2mm ti if money is there or nice friends. Speed controlers, depends on your budget etc, Electonize speed controllers from technobots.co.uk are the cheapest decent well worth the money for speed controllers.

You dont need hydraulics for a grabbing claw. But thats the strongest thing you can have. But as Stu says, It is hidiously expensive, and you need lots of real custom metalwork to get it inside the weight.

A linak is the cheapest solution, but not the lightest nor powerfull.

Full Pressure pneumatics are an option, if you can afford it, and can prove youre capable to work with them. Its about the most dangerous option you have. But if executed well.. Look at Tough As Nails.

Otherwise, low pressure pneumatics are easier and cheaper to gather, but have less power to weight.

Linaks are great if you can afford one but they go for £100 second hand

            Help! Again!

Woolworths do quite cheap ones, you can get 18v ones for 9.99 in just some Woolworths Big W stores, but if you cant find those, try the 12v ones at woolworths which are around 12.99 each in the standard sized woolworths stores.
