Does anyone have any experience of the Black & Decker Hp9096 Cordless Drill 9.6v which ASDA are selling for £5.60.

Would these be suitable for a featherweight? Also how many Amps€™ would they use?

9.6v Drills I would expect to be about £4.00-£10.00 But also take in mind the motor in the drill will be a lower rating than a cheep 12v drill that could be priced at about £9.99 which would provide a better performance. At a guess they would be only useful in minimum drive bots where the aim is to deliver the weapon and thats all as i would not see them being too practical in anything else like pushing. Although something going for them might be the brand of Black & Decker.

We were using 9.6volt drill motors until Sunday afternoon ;(

I think theyll push as hard as the traction on a 2wd 12kg bot will allow and ours happily ran at 12 volts for 12 months and 14.4v for 2 events until one got sheared off the back of a gearbox by a heavyweight trying to pass its weopon in one through one end of the bot and out of the other!

I may be interested in this sort of drill at that price as the only B&D one Ive ever taken apart was a 7.2v job costing over £70 that had a top quality 1.5 large tooth sprocketty type gearbox as opposed to the usual cheap planetry type thingy.

If you can follow that tech talk youre better qualified than me
