  • Weighing your Robot

It's something we all have to do and often (in our case at least!) gets forgotten.
I've tried looking, without much luck, for an affordable set of accurate scales that will take at least 13.6kgs. Has anyone else had any luck?
Found some postal scales in the US but postage was too high.

I did have a brainwave though!
Starting using my Wii Fit board to weigh the bots. It's about all it gets used for....
Just select a guest, state their height and age as short and young as possible (otherwise it bugs out) and you get a decent weight reading.

Interestingly despite the robot clearly not moving it still complains that the centre of gravity is shaking and warns of Pelvic Distortion!

      We use these... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004BA6J5U
Accurate to the nearest 10g so you just make sure it reads 13.59kg and you are safe
A bit expensive but very durable!

Cool thought, we have a wiifit too. Last time it (or the wii itself for that matter) got any use was probably about 2 years ago.

We used the local post office scales with Tormenta 2. Accurate to the gram!

What's your definition of affordable? I use ones similar to these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JSHIP-DIGITAL ... 1c26ae89ea

Mine were second hand though so were around half that price.

I know some people use the scales in the fruit and veg section of their local supermarket and some use the ones in the post office, as Ellis said. I used to use our digital bathroom scales which were only accurate to 100g, but since I never seem to build robots anywhere near the weight limit, that wasn't a problem

Nice use of the WiiFit board though. Likewise mine hasn't seen any use for close to two years!

i know they give bang on the same reading as the ones used for tech checking at robochallenge events.

Luggage scales are a good cheap option, but you need somewhere to hang from, and weighing parts is a pain.

Thanks for the links guys! Still more than most of our components though!
