  • Multi-bots

    Hi

If the featherweight category has ~13kg weight limit, does that mean I could enter two ~6kg robots at the same time that compete as a multibot? Is this still allowed etc?

    Re: Multi-bots

I think so with featherweights, but I don't think they allow heavyweight multibots due to the fact the area might not be able to contain 50kgs + of a robot flying into it. As the robots would fly twice as far. But that shouldn't effect you. So featherweights should be fine.

I also don't believe they have to be tethered in any way either.

I'm hoping one day someone will enter 10 BWs as a FW.....

There is no reason why you can't enter a cluster robot in any weightclass.
Our german friend Flatlinder has a raptor that competes succesfully in the featherclass. Enigma.

The argument about 50 kg half-clusters being launched is invalid, as the arena should be able to contain things like that.

          Re: Multi-bots

A 50kg robot travelling faster than a 100kg robot would, unless it's twice as fast, actually have less energy behind it than a standard 100kg being flipped into a wall. I don't see that being a problem. Take the thought further and featherweights would be considered hugely unsafe.

It would be great to see a clusterbot in action.

            Re: Multi-bots

The issue is with the roof of the HW arenas, it's only netting. A 50kg robot would (potentially) go twice as high, whereas full 100kg bots would be fine.

              Re: Multi-bots

The robot we have been building looks like a Mac Mini and its quite light, but still quite quick with having a pair of GR01's. So it wouldn't be much of a stretch to build another as it's been fairly cheap and easy to do. I'd be interested in entering as a feather weight multibot.

If a heavy weight cluster is too light and will fly too high shouldn't that mean that there is a minium heavy weight limit for all robots of about 75-80kg? I thought that a single 55kg robot was still a heavy weight.

So just to confirm, we'd be allowed to enter to 6kg robots into the featherweight competitions? Is there any chance of event organisers seeing this and verifying? If so we will order the stuff to build no. 2 lol

                  Thanks again

                    Re: Multi-bots

I've seen lighter FWs competing so don't think it'd be a problem.

Anyone remember Batterbot from 2011? It weighed ~60Kg and was smashed into the polycarb at the RR arena, no damage if I recall correctly.

                        Re: Multi-bots

I think it weighed 30kgs odd, I remember talking to Alex about it. Don't think it was allowed to be flipped by any of the big flippers.

                          Re: Multi-bots

about 40kg and yes we didnt let the arena flipper or flipper bots flip as it would have easily gone through the net roof and done some damage to the arena

No problem with FW clusters, but you will bounce off the polycarb if the big flippers get near you.
