  • How to drill holes in HDPE

    Latest idiot check.

Is a £60 drill press a worth while investment? I don't know what bits to use and how to drill straight down and be on target the hole time.

    Help!!!

Any drill press is a good investment. But you get what you pay for.

I use normal drillbits for metal, as I have a load of those. But wood drillbits work as well.

To make a well positioned hole. Messure, draw and give it a nice centrepunch where you want that hole.

As a rule of thumb you can work HDPE with wood working tools.

Having a pillar drill can be a great help, especially when drilling things like Titanium. You can get a lot more pressure and won't bend your bits (meaning they'll stay sharper and less likely to snap.)

I bought a pillar drill years ago for £40. Best thing I ever bought bar the mini lathe. You will find it invaluable for drilling vertical holes.

Tormenta 2 would have been impossible without our £40 pillar drill. I'd say a £60 one is well worth the investment.

Oh and don't get on of those ones that holds a corded drill, they're terrible!

Will take up to 12mm standard bits if you need it to. Its made making conker 100x easier!

I'm glad you said that about the ones that hold your drill, I've just been looking at them! Lol

Yeh don't bother with them. Luckily we got given ours so no money wasted, but quickly found out why he was giving it away!
