  • cheap source of wheels

does anyone know of a cheap source of grippy 100mm wheels, so far i've found naff 1s on ebay and tried 2 different 1s from bearingboy

    http://www.bearingboys.co.uk/Castor_Wheels_Only-1399-c

the blue 1s aren't very grippy and the black 1s seem to be fairly grippy both around the £2-3 area, has anyone tried any of the other wheels or found any better 1s for that same sort of price

    Re: cheap source of wheels

Most people who have grippy wheels do so because they have put their own tread on.
Bike tyre is a popular one.
So if you can get something round and cheap I wouldn't worry about the tread. You'll have to consider fixing it to your gearbox output.
The RoboChallenge wheels have a 3/8UNF (or is it 5/8?) nut set in them, shouldn't be too hard to do with a heat gun.
BaneBot wheels seem popular right now (the orange ones) I dunno what sort of shaft fixing, or solutions people are using though.

The Robochallenge wheels fit an 8mm thread if that helps...

The ones on Banebots are quite expensive but you do get a choice of durometre. 30, 40 or 50 Shore!

You could also make your own with a sheet of 20mm HDPE and screw a layer of bike tyre to the outside. That way you can choose you diametre and you can choose the width of your wheel

I would stay away from the shore 30 banebots wheels as they are so soft and grippy that they shred themselves to bits. Used some on boner and after two events they are looking worse for wear and need to be replaced.

            It's 3/8unf

I tried attaching the orange banebots using a 1/2 square shaft to some boschn 35s but it didn't work well.

ok might stick with the black wheels from bearing boy so far they've done quite well and i think there £2.10 each at the mo and i can get the 3/8 unf break pipe connector (5 for £2.25 i think )

also what are the arena floors made from and how slippy are they

Most of the arena floors are wood. I think Robo Challenge is the only one with a steel floor.

I don't think the wooden floors are that much slippy.
