Re: which speed controllers are better

Unfortunately the days of AUD$20 cordless drills has long gone over here in Aus, it's hard to find any 12v - 18v ones for under AUD$40 (~24Quid). And the ones you can find for cheap always have the plastic gears in themOriginally posted by RelentlessBelieve they're working on getting a 10mm shaft version. Little pricey for the same power (reliability aside) as a 12 quid drill...Originally posted by harry hillsspeaking of botbitz, just seen their new motors, looking quite good atm. bigger shaft would be good. .Pretty jelly that you UK blokes can still pick up drills for cheap! .Pretty jelly that you UK blokes can still pick up drills for cheap!

Shoot an email to sales@botbitz.com , we'll work through troubleshooting it with youOriginally posted by AnttazzTried to test the botbitz controllers today on 9.2v with 2 12v drill motors attached but one of them doesn't seem to be working . I'll have another look at my soldering and see if its that, but it looked ok when I did it. Don't really want to have to send them all the way back to Auz to get looked at . Believe it was this one: http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/st ... ber=289449

Don't know how they fair next to the trusted Argos versions in combat but I don't see why they wouldn't work just as well. It was surprisingly well made. Took some time to get into it!

Re: which speed controllers are better

I'm pretty sure the latest ones I bought from Argos (~2 months ago) were all-metal gears, although my memory might be fudged slightly on that. I do remember that the attached drill motor has a D-shaped shaft so that the pinion doesn't break loose, an issue which I have had happen on other drill motors on several occasions (cost me a good battle once tooOriginally posted by PJ-27I don't know what the cheapest all metal gearboxed drills are in the UK? ) )
