  • Over head bar spinners

See a lot of these in the US and they appear effective so its much like a FBS without some of the complexities but is there a reason why most don't build them here?

    Re: Over head bar spinners

I always thought they're a risk design wise. Nearly all self-destruct videos are of an overhead bar spinner. And, unless the body of the robot is low to the ground and/or the bar has something allowing it to get hits closer to the ground, low robots will evade you. There are several design difficulties there. Plus, the nature of them means when you get a solid contact, you're likely to go flying yourself.

When done right, of course, they're immense. Less complicated build-wise than a fullbody but similar characteristics. I haven't seen any UK bar spinners at all I don't think. Not entirely sure why, perhaps because as I said, there are arguably better spinner designs out there.

    Few are cooler, though.

They have all the complexities of a full bodied spinner. There is little difference to the implementation apart from what you put on the end of the shaft in the middle of the bot.

I had thought about one for our second machine but the whole centre drive mechanism thing and having to run your removable link up inside the core to the top, like LS4, just made it unappealing.

And Diesector vs Final Destiny is a very good example of a self destruct!

Not as cool as Icewave's selfdestruct, that was a classic.

Have you seen the spin test video of Hazard were the blade comes off? Can't find it now......
