  • FW bar materials

    evening all

How does a small bar (only 30ish cm long) made out of 10mm t6 ali with 4mm hardox teeth on the end sound?

If not any good, what would you recommend?

the ali would buckle. Make it from a single piece of hardox or stainless steel. Job done.

It'll sound different depending on what you hit it with,

Personally I would recommend a musical instrument for sound, thats what they're designed for

bloody hell, 10mm t6 ali and would still buckle?

what about the 4mm hardox teeth idea though? connected to a stainless bar?

          Re: FW bar materials

yes it would especially if it hit something at an angle such as a flipper.

Don't bother putting insert teeth in unless you are doing a sam smith and machining the bejesus out of them to adequately support them. Keep it simple stupid, bit piece of steel, single piece, spun up really fast. Little to go wrong.

Any good places to get enough material to machine a bar with half descent teeth?

perfect, will start to compile parts together

hope to go for 3mm ti and some kind of plastic armour, maybe 8mm hdpe or 5mm polycarb, hope to mix in some 10mm poly if I can, but weight will be tight

10mm stainless steel bar? Will bend like a wet noodle. Unless you make a triangulated girder from it.

Bar spinner. Simple solution is to use a solid chunk of hardox.
300*60*12 is 1.75 kg without any holes or fancy cuttings.

This is a findable offcut at places where heavy earth moving equipment is made/repaired.
