    Re: motors

i will get the gimsons, and am probably buying an electronize esc and would it make any differance to the speed that the diameter of the wheels is the size of an a4 piece of paper vertically.

      Re: motors

yes it will make a massive difference. if you think about it the motor will always rotate the same number of times in a minute but if you put on bigger wheels the circumference is longer so it will travel further for every rotation. so by having bigger wheels it will make you much faster but you will be left with much less power and with 300mm diameter wheels you probably wont even have enough power to move.
i think you could get away with 150mm wheels which jonny used in barnsleybot but it will be quite hard to control.
i suggest either going for smaller wheels or you will have to find some different motors with a lower rpm (revolutions per minute) or will have to go for a homemeader gear box which i dont think you should do for your first robot.

Hells Angel drives quite nippy on 80mm blue wheeled 14.4V Gimsons fed 18.5V from a 5S 5000mah pack trough an Scorpion XXL Ilyama version. (theoretical speed 12kph, but looks a lot faster)

Hannibalito 4 seems quite happy with the 170mm wheeled 9.6V GR01 units powered from a 3S pack trough a smaller, cheaper Scorpion XL v1 (19kph)

Add spikes? Apart from mthst I think you should just try to keep it simple for your first bot.

                      Re: motors

i will add spikes, when i was designing it i went crazy and put a drill on the plow in the design but that was a stupid idea.

a drill will have very little effect on a fw

                          Re: motors

i havn't had much luck getting parts for my robot and the parts i am getting are not suitable for a thwack bot so i am redesighning. Fortunately i haven't done armour or a chasis yet , just got the internal parts, so i can change my design. Any suggestions?

i cant think now i cant do my original design. :| :|

just to clarify, what parts are you using?
most designs can be tweeked to fit parts.

the gimsons and wheels and esc and battery from billy and a technobots transmitter/ reciever the wheels are 100mm and wouldn't work on a thwack i was thinking a crusher but i dont know how and i couldn't use pneumatics because of price. One with a disk like hypnodisk but i am not sure if their legal in a normal tournament.

spinners won't run ant normal live events, only at robochallange
btw, the saturn radio sets are pretty aweful. the 25 quid giant cod ones are better.
