Funny you should mention that Grant, we had a similar problem with Bitza Mk1, created all sorts of shorts and what not, but mounting the metal base to more metal was a far to convince solution to pass up. So I just made sure everything was well insulated!

The base being earthed does explain a few things.

I spoke to electronize and they were very helpful and told me just to replace the wires which I've done and it now works. Apparently I may have had my receiver battery a different polarity to my main battery polarity but I'm not sure. Hopefully it won't happen again (or at the champs)
