  • stuck for a design idea

ive had a basic rammer, and something with claws (shame they were crap) but once ive got smidsy up and running im really wanting to build something with a good active weapon yet i really cant decide what too do

i was thinking of going down the crusher route again as ive really got a thing for them, but trying to make a crusher thats invertable AND will also crush either way up is a bit hard

im open to and suggestions as im really quite stuck for a design

i'm building a crusher to but if you want it to be invertible i'd say go for a horizontal crusher because to get a verticle crusher to work invertible would be nearly impossible

Re: stuck for a design idea

made a horizontal already with masses of design flaws

not sure if to try and re-build that to scrap it and make something different

If it's for the champs then build a spinner

Finding a disk that's a good weight is hard, but I would like to build a spinner, just cash would be the problem there

Then forget a disc and buy a stainless steel bar (first thing i came to searching ebay)

              http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAINLESS-STE ... 5d25579529

Drill it in the center and go to town. Job done.

                Gary, you are a genius!

                Spinner it is I guess

Got a spare pair of esc's, need a couple of motors and bar set up but it shouldn't be too hard to do in time

Re: stuck for a design idea

If you want a cheap motor, go for a car fan motor (Mondeos seem a good source). You can pick them up from car breaker's yards for £5 - £10 and they usually do around the 1hp mark. DragonStrike is the best example of putting one to use on a spinner.

And if you go for a bar, make sure to get the drill hole dead centre, otherwise you'll wobble yourself to jiggery!

Can I be a real pain and get someone to post a parts list and rough cost to make one?

Re: stuck for a design idea

If you go for a car fan motor (or even Speed 900s) I'd just go for a battle switch/relay combo. Spinner ESCs aren't really necessary (brushless stuff aside) as most of the time you'll be running at full speed anyway. Just easier to flick a switch and enjoy the buzz of it spin up

Don't be surprised if the cost of things such as pulleys, belts and various washers and/or fixings needed for a spinner is more than you might have expected. With my first spinner I spent a fair few quid on things I thought I'd need but didn't, or didn't use because they weren't quite right for the design. A good degree of planning can help but trial and error plays a big part.

                              So current list is:

                              Box frame chassis
                              Polycarb armour
                              2 drill motors
                              Set of wheels
15a ESC with 30a fuses to run 18v
                              18v Nimh pack
                              Fan motor
                              Stainless steel bar
Relay/ESC, what ever I can get
2 pulleys for 1:1 ratio? Not sure yet
                              Belt
                              Various bolts etc

                              All sounding good?
