18v drills should be fine for drive aslong as you are using a high voltage, one thing you might want to check is if they have have hammer action? if they do then it makes the gearboxes alot bigger and heavier. Also the size of your wheels will affect the performance, drills generally need quite small wheels (but I suppose you already knew that). One last thing, make sure they have a sealed gearbox, if they dont they can fall apart a bit too easily. If you post the brand name then someone will undoubtedly have already taken some of them apart (or even used them in a robot) and can tell you all you need to know.

Im using an 18v drill for my full body spinner, it seems extreamly torquie, and jumps out my hand when i put it on 24v.
I presume yours will be of the standard that mine are, so yer, they should be great.

Sounds like the 18 volt ones we have. Are they NuTool? Dont think it actually matters becasue of the 50+ weve taken apart virtually all have the same gearbox. We have run them on 24V without any problems but they will burn out if stalled for more than a few seconds. If youve seen our feather Little Disc that used them with a home built speed controller too. It even lasted the Entire Welsh event!

Tip: Dont use IC sockets without glue The chips kept falling out on ours.

Ill be taking a few to Newark if anyones intrested see me there.

well, ive bought 6pcs of DeuZer cheap 18v drills 20‚/each,(from finland ) we had 2 of them with our first bot running at 12v and 100mm wheels and now building new bot with four of them and 150mm wheels, the motors are running at 24v and each of them have own 80x80x25mm DC-fan and ill put some heatsinks for them if i can find any (i think wont find, ill make them from 1mm aluminium sheet)

Those motors work well at 12v, i sat to my new 4-wheel bot (i weight 54kg and the bot is 25kg) and it took me around easily and quickly
