  • 5/2 LP sloenoid valve

I need a bit of help...
I'm on budget and I'm building a LP pneumatic flipper. Just the valve to go!
I know what cylinder i'm getting (double acting 63mm bore and 75mm stroke)
    soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    I have £30 to buy a 5/2 solenoid valve
could you helpfull people help me by recomending a valve that will run on <10 bar?

would any of these 2 valves work?

will it work on 18v and does it work well?

        Re: 5/2 LP sloenoid valve

never used it 18v but i did try it at 16.8v and it worked although the solenoid got quite hot but if the flipper is on a return trigger mechanism, i should imagine it would be fine. I never tried it with pressure though.

you should be able to run it on up to double as you're only running it for a short while a time. as long as you don't leave it in the on position for long it should be fine on 18v. be warned the flowrate on cheapy ebay valves is sometimes terrible, which is fine if you go for the double quick exhaust valve method (which i'd suggest) as the co2 goes straight from the buffer tank to the qev then to the ram. that said the ram you're using will have quite low cv so you don't need too much flow rate.

if you're planning on a 10 bar setup i don't think either of those valves would work anyway as i'm pretty sure 8 kilogram force/ square cm is approx 7.8 bar although i'm tired so could be wrong. last time i checked andy still had a couple of 5/2 12v 10 bar solenoid valves lyeing around, drop him a pm.

              Re: 5/2 LP sloenoid valve

Most LP valves have a rating to 8 bar. Some of the older or specialised kinds go to 10, and there is a range that goes to 16 bar.

Industrial installations mostly work at 6 bar.(pressue in the distribution is higher, and each machine has a lp regulator)

But jonny is right, the ram has only small inlets, but will benefit of the QEV setup, especialy if you enlarge or double the inlets.
Woodies website has all information on that.

I guess I could swap the thing (can't think off the top of my head) so I could run it at 14.4

                  Re: 5/2 LP sloenoid valve

                  I have 2 lp rams 63 x 75 for 25 each + p+p if that's any cheaper before you buy.

are there any better valves that I could use.
If i was going to use any 5/2 valve I would use QEV's

                      Re: 5/2 LP sloenoid valve

No better valves for the application, only bigger with better CV can help, but with QEV's that ain't less a problem.
