  • Drill motor wattage?

Out of interest, whats the wattage of 12v,18v and 24v drill motors?

    Re: Drill motor wattage?

That's a good question (although a little arbitrary) and one I've asked before.

The 18v Dewalt motors are listed as being 946w on the RioBots tutorial. The 24v motors we have I was told are 750w, but the 12v ones we had before I think I was told we're more like 50w. Then of course there is the Bosch 35w motor....

    These figures seem widely different!

      Re: Drill motor wattage?

Im planning on running four 18v drill motors at 24v off of 2 electronize 30a. Ive got a feeling however that i may need two more!

What kinda current do these things draw?

            Depends on the Voltage.

            Current = Power/Voltage.

But increasing the Voltage will effectively increase the potential Power......

              Re: Drill motor wattage?

Hmm well i have two unknowns so i cant complete the formula. Each 24v motor will now have a 30a speedo to itself so i guess that will have to do!

If you have access to a multimeter you could work the current out, but I think you're ESC's will be pretty safe with the setup your planning.

                  Re: Drill motor wattage?

Well I'm using 15a Electronize's on a pair of Dewalt 18v's so we'll see what happens.....

Actually if the figures are correct then that's about 40a at 24v.....

Those Electronize ESC's are pretty tough, 15a cont, 40a peak and 270a burst. These figures are even higher for the 30a model.

                    Re: Drill motor wattage?

I have messured cheap 12V lesha drillmotors over 60 amps in stall @12V.
But if they have anything meaningfull over 10A, I would be very surprised. Over 15A you get nice heaters, but as drivepowersource it leaves something to be desired.

So, a cheap 12V batterydrill. My gut telling me, nominal 12V 5A (doesn't overheat), for our purpose 12V 10A (gets hot after 1 minute normal robot work), and brushburning in a fight 12V 25A.
