  • best way for cooling motors and ESC's

i see most people use small fans built in over the esc's to keep them cool and the same over some motors that dont come with build in cooling, but...

were do you get these things from? they appear to be basic fans you would find in a PC. my new bot will be running with 2 9.6v batteries in series if that help on what voltage they will run at

    thanks

      many places, maplins, ebay etc

I wouldn't rely on fans for cooling, one piece of shrapnel or a large impact and the fan will bugger itself over. I prefer to over rate everything electronically.

I would encase the fan with a thin layer of Ali to protect it

then how would the fan be able to blow air then?

if you really want to do it properly you could get a small electronics box and put a fan on one side that blows cooler air into the box and so the speedo, and another fan other side that removes the hot air

could you not just use a few travel fans?

I had an old computer fan in my robot it does cool it down a little bit but is a waste of space.

In my case the fan would be a good aural indicator that the robot was switched on! (I keep not seeing my antweights' power lights and letting the batteries drain to uselessness, heh)

i use some PC style fans from Maplins wired into the power line, about £5 each i think. they work okay but i have been thinking about some type of water cooling system...
anyway yeah, work okay as long as the robots not massivly hot, if you have the weight/space go for it
