  • Using different rated cells together.

Unfortunately one of our battery packs packed up on us. We had a couple of 7.2v NiMh 3Kmah packs powering the robot, but one of them appears to have shorted itself out and now no longer retains charge.

We have some other 7.2v packs, but they are different ratings and manufacturers, is it going to be a bad idea to wire these in series?

We had a £100 budget, and are currently at £90!

    Thanks,

    PJ

yes it is a bad idea. You will damage the cells more quickly as they will discharge at different rates.

Welcome to one of the first rules of building bots, you never stay in budget.

The Robot's design in space and electronics uses two 7.2v hobby packs. Could probably also use two 8.4v packs, but it has to be that stick shape, meaning we need two.

            Future robot upgrade I guess!
