    Re: motor size

      Re: motor size

If that's the case then it's false advertising. The question is whether Westbourne Models realises they are not stocking the proper Graupner Speed 900. I've just looked at the site again, and every motor that appears under the 'Graupner Electric Motors' heading has Graupner in the product name, except that one, which is just called '900 BB Turbo 12V'

What I think is particularly deceiving is that the small image associated with the '900 BB Turbo 12V' product description is slightly stretched, so it looks to be of similar size to the actual Speed 900, but when you click on it for a larger image, the bigger image isn't stretched or skewed and you can see that it is shorter than the Speed 900.

Maybe point them in the direction of this thread in your email Alex. Whether they are aware of what they are selling or not, it ought to be changed.

        Re: motor size

        this is what i sent

        Dear Westbourne Model

On the 15/01/11 I bought what I thought to be a Graupner Speed 900 BB turbo 12v motor pt no 6373, however after receiving it and asking others within my hobby i am not convinced at all it is a Graupner product. I have bought a few Graupner Speed 900 BB Turbo motors before and this one is smaller and weighs over 100g less, compared to the others I have.

After talking with others I highly suspect it to be a:

900 High Torque motor from Caldercraft Electric Motors (CEM).

        Nominal Voltage: 12V
        Operating Range: 6-24V
        RPM at Nominal Voltage: 3000
        No Load Current: 0.4A
        Current at Nominal Voltage: 5.0A
        Stall Current: 20.3A
        1/4in plain output shaft

Obviously these figures are no where near the stated ones on your site or the ones I know to be true for the Graupner Speed 900 BB Turbo motor.

For these reasons I would like a refund for the motor, and I will return it to you, the other items within my order are fine and I am happy with them.

        I a wait your reply,

        Thank you

        Alexander Marler

i'll do what what you said jamie once they have replied will also post that see what they say

        cheers guys alex

          Re: motor size

Just in case they try to wriggle out ...they're listing the motor as a
Graupner Speed 900 BB Turbo 12v Pt No 6373 on the website frontpage..with pic.
          http://www.westbourne-model.co.uk/

The Graupner Speed 900 BB Turbo 12v Pt No 6373 link then takes you to the 900 BB Turbo 12v.

            Re: motor size

            update

after no reply to email phoned them today

explained what the problem is, they know it isn't a real graupner, it is a replica that is meant to have the same stats as a true speed 900 except the rpm is 1000 lower (which is no good to me). so they have 56 on order or something so when the real ones arrive in a couple of weeks my names on the list to get one

so sort of sorted just hope it isn't too long before the real one gets here

            we shall see

              Re: motor size

              Sorry for the bump.
Westbourne Models seems to be selling the real Graupner Speed 900 motor now. Can't find any pictures or indications anywhere of the alternative motor they were stocking.

It's still priced at £32 so therefore it's still the cheapest around. I need to order one but I'm half-tempted to pay the extra that it costs to buy from Redbank Models just in case Westbourne send through one of the 'fake' motors.

they have 56 on order or something so when the real ones arrive in a couple of weeks my names on the list to get one
Did you get it eventually Alex?

Think I'll just stick with Redbank in that case then; more expensive but I had no problems the last time I ordered from them.

                  Cheers Alex

                    Re: motor size

While everyone was out of stock I ordered six from a model store in france, after the conversion rate inc. shipping it worked out cheaper than Westbourne Models but I cannot find the site again now or the invoice. Doh!

                      Re: motor size

I went to order from Redbank Models the other day but they were out of stock so I had a look around the net for alternatives and found that Cornwall Model Boats also had them. At £36 (inc vat) they're a whopping 99p cheaper than Redbank Models
But on a serious note, I ordered it on Thursday night, so it wouldn't have got processed until yesterday, and I've just had it turn up at my door this morning, which is excellent in my opinion. So I'd definitely recommend them if anyone is looking to buy some:

What do you guys do for gear boxes when you buy a motor like that?

                          Re: motor size

right they are sending one out to me at no extra cost

so i paid £26.64 for the motor in the original order

I use mine as weapon motors so I don't have any gearboxes. I just use a couple of timing pulleys (44-tooth on the drum and something like 16-tooth on the motor) and just connect them together with a timing belt.

This was how it was set up in the old Drumroll, and I'll be doing a similar thing with the new one:

My drive units came from Mario (Team RCC), I happen to have a pair of spare gearbox plates for them. They fit a 6:1 ratio gearset, I'll try and find a pic

Timing Belts, thats a neat idea. Do you get an element of slip on impact so the stop force isn't carried to the motor?

I'm assuming those gearboxes are custom made?
