  • Bosch 35w motors

    I have a couple of the Bosch 35w motors, and am wondering how people Connect wheels to them the ones I have, have got a square hole about 5-6mm through the output shaft.
    Any ideas how best to sort out the wheel connection.

    i used a 4mm allen key (steel) which i think fits in nicely from memory might need slight adjustment but worked well

      I think the hole for the gearbox is about 4mm square section.I was wondering if you just got key steelthat size and welded a bit on to a round shaft to fit the wheel?

        you are looking for some 4mm keystock (sits in a keyway on a motor shaft). Alternatively just take your shaft, make it a bit longer and find a friend with a mill to mill a square section on the end.

              A bearing supports the wheel between the motor and wheel- idealy it should be supported both sides.

              I originaly had titanium axles, i had to upgrade those to P20 tool steel as they sheered.

                Hi did you boar out the centre of the output shaft or did you use the original 5mm square?
                and How did you stop the wheel from coming off?

                  The shaft is turned and has a 4mm square milled on the end, directly next to the motor on the shaft a pulley slides over and is held in place with a grubscrew (there's a flat milled onto the shaft for this, the pulley powers my front wheels) then it passes through the armor and sits in a bearing. The wheel then slides over the end of the shaft and is held in place with a keyway.

                  I'd strongly suggest putting a bearing as close to the motor as possible and on the other end of the loading point (in this case a wheel)

                  It's shown quite well here;

                      Re: Bosch 35w motors

                      Just taken my bosch's apart to see why they failed at the uk champs;

                      Turns out the shaft is 8mm with a spline on the outside which is simply pushed into the nylon gear... and eventually this connection just wears out.

                      Im going to look into getting some brass gears machined.

                      If anyones interested in a set PM me.

                      Ill put the prices and details up in the for sale section when i know more.

                            Nope, rang hpc and they told me to send them a sample of the nylon ones to copy, but then I put it back and forgot about it while I got on with other things.

                            If your after 20 sets it might be a better idea if you sort it out with them...order me a set while your at it lol
