  • Featherweight ringer

Not sure whether I should post this here or in the wanted section.

Have been toying with this idea for a while now, our as of yet unnamed team (three of us) are working on getting Scar running as well as getting our unnamed featherweight finished, preferably before the Scottish/Northern England event event next year. Being fairly new to this i'm not sure if this would be a good event to go to for a first show, but geographically it definitely is.

We would love to be able to run a robot each at this event, even if they're not that good. Problem is we don't have anywhere near enough time to build 3 in this space of time. We should have 1 featherweight running early next year, but I reckon Scar will take priority as we have a guy building custom parts for a Uni project and I think that will take longer than we have.

Anyway, this brings me to the point of the story. I was wondering if anyone fancied building us a bot, which obviously we would pay for, doesn't have to be a world beater just something that would run enough for the guys to get a taste of battle, or as i've put it in the title, a ringer. Going by what i've read, maybe an electric lifter would be a cheap option, but opinions would be appreciated. Saying that, weaponry etc is not the important part, just something cheap that will run.

Anyway, hopefully someone out there has some spare time and fancies this.

    Cheers guys.

    Re: Featherweight ringer

it might be better positioned in the wanted section

    few questions for you..

    what components do you have?
do you have any radio gear?
what specs were you looking for, ie robot size, armour, speed etc?

tbh it doesn't take that long to build a simple robot

      Re: Featherweight ringer

Cheers for the reply Alex, as I was writing it I was thinking the wanted section would be a better place to put it, but it was getting late and I was getting lazy so just left it here. Hopefully it doesn't cause any problems.

A number of the free components I have will be going in the featherweight i'm trying to build myself, but there are a few free things. I think I have some 4QD ESC's and control board that would be going spare. Although they look scary and difficult to work compared to the electronize ones I am used to.

I have a couple of sets of radio gear Spektrum Dx6i and a Planet 5

To be honest, cost was the main priority so I hadn't really thought of spec, infact, to make things more exciting maybe a robot that is intentionally hopeless would be quite fun, even if that fun is only for the people knocking it senseless or the audience. As long as it doesn't cost a bomb to repair after each fight. I can handle new bits of armour each fight but preferably not the expensive bits.

I'm not as experienced as the majority of the guys on this forum but I know building a bot would probably not take me too much time. But one of the guys is using Scar as part of a Uni project and custom building the parts for it, and I think he would be pretty pissed if I was away building a featherweight when I should be helping him out. Free heavyweight bits is really the only way I could afford to get Scar going and due to it having to be done to the Uni's timetable rather than my own I reckon I really have to give give him priority.
