  • Gears For Drills.

Long story short, instead of attaching a wheel to the end of my drill motor and gear box I need to attach a gear, that in turn drives a gear that is then attached to the wheel.....

Just wondered if anyone knew where I could get gears that fit onto drill gearbox spindles? We currently have the gear that is intended to be used, but having trouble affixing it to the spindle, anyone got any tricks?

    Thanks!

just drill and tap a hole in the center of the gear?

the thread for drill motor shaft is something like 3/8 UNF i'd have to dig out my taps to find out thou

      Re: Gears For Drills.

Unfortunately the gear center is hollowed out to allow for a ratchet system, so there is no center and the hollow isn't even a circle!

This is why I either need to find a new gear altogether that I can attach to the drill, or someway of affixing it.

The blue wheels from robo challenge have those nut inserts, if I could get a hold of one of those inserts then I should be able to mount that inside the gear..........

Alternatively if your sure of the thread type then I could try and somehow fill the empty space (any ideas how?) and tap a thread.

As posted earlier the thread is 3/8 UNF ... Nuts this size are readily available at most motorist supplies ..i.e. Halfords.

Good thinking! I'll see if I get get a hold of a nut then.

I do believe it is some sort of steel, which exactly I do not know.

EDIT: I've had a poke around the Halford site and can't find a 3/8 nut? All the sizes seem to be metric, anyone else likely to have any luck?

            Thanks,

A few come up, but I need to measure the size of the nut (exterior) to check it will fit inside the gear. I'm sure my local hardware store will sell them. Thanks for the tips everyone!

if its steel could fill the hole with weld and then flatten it off and redrill a hole to fit the nut

might not be the strongest but should be ok for fw

Yeh that is another option. I'll let you know how I get on.
