  • Possible new claw design?

Hi just having a play about with some different weapons and just wanted to see what the general feel was to this idea.

Basically its pinsers without a motor, when a robot hits into the front pad it pushes a rack that in turn causes the two pinsers driven by gears to close on that robot.

hey, good thinking and that -but it wouldnt have any serious power

with robots with claws for the weapon its a waste of time just having them be able to grab and nothing more- i should know lol because the robot will just get dominated all the time like mine did :P

kind of example lol-imagine 2 guys fighting and its like one guy just hugging the other all the time- so the other guys still gonna land some hits in

Yeah the idea wasn't to have any crushing power, the idea is to hold something inplace withouth the need for battieries and motors to save weight so that something like an axe could attack.

If the claws were just L shapped bits of box section to hook in behing the enemy then it could be a fairly light weight way of holding a bot still?

That could work, you woudl however need some way of lcoking it inplace and releasing it to let go of the bot, also should a bit not hit square on or escape, so the jaws are clowed with nothing in them, the weapon would be useless for the rest of the fight . Ifr they where spring loaded and had an rc locking mechanism it would work but imo it wouldnt be worth it with all those custom parts.

A big servo could do the trick if you run it on a higher voltage/ piggyback an h bridge off of its electronics so you don't damage it. It might be powerful enough and light enough to hold another robot and allow for an axe.

I think my drawing and description havnt really depicted my idea properly. The idea wasnt to be a claw that got the side of the robots and held it that way it was more something that would fit comfortable around the robot and so hold it in from the back. Thus if the robot could not reverse then the pad would remain pushed and hence the claws would stay shut hence no locking mechanism needed. As for a return I thought a simple elastic setup would be suffiicent?

without some mechanism to keep the claws shut or atleast under tension i cant see how this would work well with the robot in the claws trying to escape. Also a standard servo would get the gears stripped in minutes in an application like this. metal gear one may stadn up wo the bashing but the hbridge wont last long under strains like this and over volting would bring its death my sooner in sucha high stress application.

i think the claw idea would work if all mechanical i.e. a piece of box section which pushes a another piece of bent box section which is pivoted in the middle

you will need to be careful that it doesn't shut when you first go full throttle lol

                  Re: Possible new claw design?

problem with it is that you require your opponent to run into a very specific area in a very specific way. Chances are slim that this would happen in the arena. Keep coming up with the new ideas but i think this one needs some more work.

well it will be effective with effective driving it's like with any weapon really

Cool thats the kinda thing I was worried about didnt know how likely you would be to get a head on hit

with something like a windcsreen wiper motor, this would be a really effective weapon, definitely dont abandon the claw
