  • My New robot needs some advice

Hello im building my second robot but need some advice. Im going for a Rammbot with wheels sticking out both sides.

    1) Im looking for a desent trasmiter 2.4GHz but don't know were to look.
2)Team Toque sugested I use Nylon 6 as my armour and Frame, so is it a good idea.
3)Im thinking of using 12volt Drill motors, but don't know Wether to buy cheap motors (Like Tesco Value) or buy more expesive motors ,but go over my very low buget £100-£150 ish (I might beable to get a bit more but don't know).
4)were to get 100mm solid rubber wheels and how to fix them to the gear boxes from the drills.
5)Allredy have speed controlers From ArmourDillo (I might not use ArmourDillo any more)
6)where to get a removalble link but also have a charging plug built in (so I can charge batterys in side the new robot)
    7) Wether to Use My 12volt SLA from ArmourDillo And Car charge, or use batterys and Chargers from drill moters.

I may have more Questions when I think of them.

    1) Im looking for a desent trasmiter 2.4GHz but don't know were to look.
Basic 4-channel radio set (enough for a rambot with room to add weapons later should you wish): http://www.giantcod.co.uk/gianitcod-24g ... 03779.html

2)Team Toque sugested I use Nylon 6 as my armour and Frame, so is it a good idea.
Yep, although I would only use Nylon 6 for the frame and opt for something like HDPE for the armour. I use Nylon 6 and it is a very good material. Strong enough for bulkheads but fairly easy to work with using a drill and saw.
    Nylon 6: http://www.directplasticsonline.co.uk/Nylon6Sheet/
    HDPE: http://www.directplasticsonline.co.uk/HDPESheet/

3)Im thinking of using 12volt Drill motors, but don't know Wether to buy cheap motors (Like Tesco Value) or buy more expesive motors ,but go over my very low buget £100-£150 ish (I might beable to get a bit more but don't know).
Just go for the Tesco value (or cheap Homebase/B&Q models) as there isn't much difference between them and drills in the £25-£30 category (the more expensive drills will generally have better motors though)

4)were to get 100mm solid rubber wheels and how to fix them to the gear boxes from the drills.
Robochallenge blue wheels with nut inserts (third item down) will screw straight onto the output shaft of your drill motors:

6)where to get a removalble link but also have a charging plug built in (so I can charge batterys in side the new robot)
    Bottom item:
    http://web.me.com/robochallenge/Robo_Ch ... rical.html
Although any loop of wire on a connector would do, so long as it removes all power from the robot.
For in-line charging, wire up your robot like this: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c367/ ... arging.gif

    7) Wether to Use My 12volt SLA from ArmourDillo And Car charge, or use batterys and Chargers from drill moters
Either option would be fine. The capacity of your battery (the 'Ah' figure) will determine how long your robot will last. The drill batteries will probably be less than your SLA battery so may not last as long, but they are a cheap option as they are part of the drills you purchase for the motors.

That was me happy to have been of service.

I'll see if I can find the newest ruleset

The build rules are pretty much up to date apart from some updates regarding Lipo's and tethers so remind me what was deemed illegal on your robot?

Re: My New robot needs some advice

The trasmiter it's 27MHz and the rules we get when I click on 'rules' then click on 'FRA Build Rules' I get the 2008 version. I get this www.fightingrobots.co.uk/documents/Buil ... 008_v2.pdf rather than the modern version. the 2008 version said that I could use 27MHz.

Re: My New robot needs some advice

GB can you please note Item 4 from the minutes of the 22nd meeting held on 23rd Jan 2010:
40MHz is no longer permitted for use in Heavyweights as of 1st January 2010 and will be phased out in 2011 for featherweights.
The build rules should have been re-written to reflect this however rules 4.1.3 and 4.1.4 still have 27MHz as a permitted frequency

Was there a final membership decision on the 40mhz phasing out? There was/is a sizable portion of roboteers opposed to it when it first came up as I recall...
