Drill motor mounts

Is it best to go for the mounts where you fix it with one bracket or two when mounting drill motors. I am unsure as presumably with two mounts the motor would be more rigid but with one you may get a bit more flexing which may help to absorb energy if the bot is dropped onto its wheels when flipped for example

I would go for whichever one fits your design best, as both setups work exceptionally well. The two-piece ones may be a bit harder to get hold of as I don't believe they're made regularly anymore, although I'm sure someone could make a set or two up if that's what you desired.

I use the two-piece kit in one of my robots, and several others in the past, and I've had no problems with them. Similarly, in two of my current robots I use the one-piece mounting method (I don't use the kits, I just cut the gearbox shape out of my bulkhead material and secure it with screws) and I've never had any failures from this mounting method either, and that's with being flipped and landing on my wheels heavily several times.

If you're interested in the one-piece mounts, James and Grant at Robo Challenge are the guys you want (james@robochallenge.co.uk; grant@robochallenge.co.uk) and I'm sure they'd be able to manufacture the two-piece sets if you asked.

i have some of those 2 piece drill mounts Jamie mentioned i no longer need

as long as you trap the drill motor nice a tight they will hold well

Depending on your design will depend if the 2 part mounts are any good for you or not. If you have a flexable base at all, I would recomend against them as beauty 2 found out. When the base of your robot gets flipped, the the base flexes and cracks the motor mount. Unless you have a nice solid aluminium gearbox like the Big Nipper guys use, I would go 1 peice.

Hi sorry to say both work and yes WE use the Robo Challenge ones Grant can sort you out
it was not getting flipped it was the flipper bending the ti floor which made us change the motors every fight
one peice is best I found out the hard way

as used in Beauty2 and Beauty IV

ps B2 has updated to speed 900s and cost around the £100 mark for the setup

well mine cost £80 first off and then another £75 for....cough.... remolding lets say
