    Hi Rob,
It all depends what you want to do with the TX really. The newer version after the DX6 was the the DX6i, which is a very good TX - not as nice to look at or hold, but smoother sticks and much better programming functions (not that you would use most of them!). The DX6i doesnt like to bind very well with the BR6000 recievers, and so the Ar500 can be used with it but you would need seperate failsafes on all channels apart from throttle.

If your not worried about any form of programming features such as programmable mixing, dual rates, exponential and travel adjustments etc etc then the DX5e is the cheapest and simplest spektrum TX you can get. It has dip switches for channel reversing and a dipswitch to mix the aileron and elevator channel which come in handy for robot use but no other functions. This TX usually comes with the AR500 but it will run very well with the BR6000 that you use in the DX6.

If your looking for what i think is the best solution and dont mind spending abit of extra money, then look towards the DX7 - its a fantastic tx, great looks, great quality and a really nice feel on the sticks.
Its extreamly programmable, does everything you will ever need for robot use and is mainly designed around helicopter use so has alot of mixing functions which may come in usefull for you. It works perfectly with the BR6000 reciever aswell.
I have stuck with the DX7 as its by far my favourite affordable TX....

There are usually some very good deals second hand on ebay or on the BMFAclassifieds website, or if your looking for new then drop me an e-mail, I am sure we can atleast beat or match any of the current new UK prices.

The AR500 give no output when it loses a signal so on most speed controllers and switches doesn't need a failsafe.

The Scorpion controllers fail safe as do the roboteqs and I seem to recall the Electronize speed controllers and switches do as well.

We run the AR500 in Hydra and BOOM! and don't need anything extra. Probably just depends on the type of speedo you use.

Yes, if your speedcontroller has built in failsafes then you wont need extra ones.
