    Re: Metatron

i have 3 sabertooths, never had a problem running 2 x speed 700's, or 4 drills on 18v, had a duff one once which was faulty from new, but apart from that i think they are a great controller, dimension's after sales was also brilliant when i had the faulty one, they sent me a replacement without wanting the old one back. (brought mine from gimson robotics, before it closed down) i would recommend getting one from technobots as you get the discount? also they take a while to arrive when ordering direct from dimension.
i think 24v is the max you should put through them though, also obviously you want the 25a not 10a.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, it looks like i will be saving some money for a Sabertooth.

        Re: Metatron

Hi I've just fitted the new sabertooth speed controller to Tron and sometimes its ok then the thing goes crazy
It is connected to 14.4v batteries running 2* 9.6v motors per channel. Spectrum dx6 radio switches no 1 and5 down as per instructions.
Normally it works well then it will go mad I loose all control and if I turn off the Tx then it still moves with no reaction to anything I remove the link and replace then it is ok again. I have noticed just before the problem starts the red led flashes fault then the fun starts any idea.
Also when wiring the Rx into the speed controller do you put two 5v power lines and two 0volt lines from the two channels or just one I€™ve tried both dosen't seem to make any difference.

          Re: Metatron

So you are running 4x 9.6V drills overvolted to 14V off the sabretooth?

There might well be another problem with your setup but that sounds like what happened with my sabretooth before it let out the magic smoke. I would drop two of the motors and try one on each channel and see if you still have the problem.

If you are running 4 drills, you are running it at its limits.

              Re: Metatron

In the end i just think the Sabertooth is too wimpy for the job     so I'm putting in the Sidewinder 80 amps per channel PICK THE BONES OUT OF THAT!!!
It should take Tron and throw it to the other side of the arena no problems.

Golden rule If in doubt go over the top with the speck

                Hey Mate,
regarding the Sabretooth, I've had the same problem as well as some other Australian builders.
In simple terms, the Sabretooth can't put out the power needed for 4 motors (14.4V@19.2V in my case)
and the Reciever. Soo, you will need one of these:
                an external BEC
that plugs in the way it tells you on the Sabretooth User Guide. (Has a picture of a Dimension Engineering
BEC connected to it, Fig.5.2 on Page 12)

                Hope it helps

                  Re: Metatron

Thanks for the advice I have a Bec that should do the trick. the Sabertooth is going to be fitted to a 2 motor robot now. as the sidewinder takes no prisoners in the 4 motor pusher ram bot that is Tron.
Oh and for those that may be intrested I have put a steel spike on the front    to sort out some of the little plastic robots that are arround.

                    Re: Metatron

New blue wheels fitted, motor replaced, Sidewinder speed controller fitted new DX5e RX fitted. All looking good I may fit a different spike on the front and put a charging point in the back so I don€™t have to keep taking the cover off to re-charge. But apart from that the old Metatron (Tron) is ready for ROBOT GLORY!!

                      Re: Metatron

                      I use one of these.

quote from web site Spektrum's new Voltage Protector prevents a DSM„ receiver's voltage from dropping below the proper operating level in lower voltage applications such as 4-cell 1/12 carpet racers. Installation is as simple as plugging it into an open channel slot on the receiver unit.

                      But i run 2 x 12v drill motors at 19.2v (2 x 9.6v) and it runs fine.

Just a question on the Sidewinder speed controller I cant get the flip control to work it was ok when I used the Sidewinder in St Hammer but after the repair it dose not seem to work is there any reason for this. I have tried the flip control in all the receiver channels but it dose not work???
