  • Weapon ideas

    Hi

Im building a featherweight but I cant decide on a weapon. I was thinking of 2 x vertical rotating discs, but I wouldnt be able to build it so they wouldnt get bent.

Another idea was a rotating drum instead.

    Any suggestions on weapons?

    Thanks!

P.S. Space is limited and the robot can drive upside down, so nothing can be fixed on top.

Do you want to be able to run this robot at a lot of events through the year?

If so dont go for a spinner but rather a lifter, flipper or crusher as you wont be able to run it at many events.

if its your first robot id say a lifter meaqns once you get more confident and build knowledge it is easier to fit in a flipper system

        Thanks for the replies.

I dont plan on attending lots of events, maybe 1 or 2 in a year. How come some events dont allow spinners?

Yes its my first robot, but I cant fit a lifting mechanism because the robot is invertible.

how about a rambot, or do you definitely want to have a weapon? Some of the best robots are pushers. It makes the robot much simpler to build and maintain and thats generally a good thing.

My original intention was to build a rambot, perhaps with spikes at the front.

Unfortunately my bot is too slow. Im using a 50:1 ratio!

There are invertible lifters, look at Big Nipper!
To be honest, your better off starting simple, like a rambot, or a pusher.
The reason events like RR and RL! dont allow spinners is because they are class 3 arenas, so it would be very dangerous to have spinners in there.
Class 2s alow Featherweight spinners (Like Robochallenge) and Class 1 arenas allow FW and HW spinners (Like the robot wars one)
But it would be a better option to start out simple if your a first time builder, flippers and the like are complicated and have an 50% chance of working, but rammmers adn pushers have more of a 80% chance of working.

seeing as its your first robot you should start off with something easy. for my first robot i had a 2 wheel drive robot with a lifter and because it was my first it was quite hard work to get it all in there and working.

as for a spinner you will need quite a bit of experience with building a robot to begin with as theres so much more to think about when designing and building it.

so start off simple -make it- fight with it- see if its strong enough---if its not then you would know what to do and not what to do next time.

Thanks for the advice, perhaps Im being a bit over ambitious with my first robot!

Im unfamiliar with the rules, but what damage can a pusher or lifter do?

Also I wonder if a slow moving (but powerful) bot could do any damage with spikes?

                    Spikes are not that damaging...
Axes like Terrorhurz dont really cause damage but instead shake electroics about a bit.
                    Plus, its about TACTICS.
A rammer/pusher needs tactics, so, for example, at the start of the fight, hit a couple of robots untill someone presses the pit realease button, then push bots down the pit, into the hazards and so on.
                    THATS how a rammer/pusher wins.
Truama was also a 2 wheeled lifter, but it was VERY hard to make.
Mainly due to the small size.
Plus, if your just starting out, try something like an antweight, they much easier to make.

Ah I see, theres a pit! Ill probably start off with a pusher bot then.

                        Thanks

Pushers are good ... bottom line is to build something and get it into the arena. Once you have seen the opposition in the pits you will know how to modify your build. Spinners are banned from most events; there are only one or two events a year that take them.

@Thomas-Plus, house bot, floor flipper, so make it invertible!
@Liam-Trauma was my first robot, but never entered due to it being so small, so light, so terrible!
Due to recent reasearch, it has now been classed as a Raptor Weight.
