    Where do you get...

well sometimes people might have hardox they can poass on i have some 5mm not very big but i dont need it or there are places you can buy from not sure where they are

i am building a crusher at the moment if you look on the new robots only feather database i have posted some pics on flickr

it is a very big subject and you need to consider some things first,
    crushing force wanted
    budget
    linear actuator
    hydrualics
    or homemade actuator

then you can start thinking of some designs, and then about what motors etc you cna use with the weight left

      Which actuator should i use?
5mm Hardox might be some help, could you tell me how much it weighs please?
I could use it for a new wedge on Hunter.
If its the right weight, then could you post it to me (Ill have to get my dads permision first though!)
I would quite like a strong crusher, but its just a thought for future robots.

i can weigh it tomorrow and tell you the price for the postage, anyhting else you might need just ask i might have it but i would ask for some money then as the hardox i got for free so its not right to charge money for that

          Robot for sale?
          Just kidding!
The hardox could be helpful, is it easy to drill?
I know how to cut it.

Angle grinder to cut it unless you have access to laser/plasma/water jet.

Cobalt drill bits, lots of coolant and as slow a speed as possible to drill it. Make sure you can resharpen your drill bits as you will need to after a while. Other drill bits will just blunt (been there done that)

Hardox on a cluster featherweight? Is it a rammer or something else?

It weighs effectively the same as steel (around 8000kg/m^3)

Yes, it will be 2 rammers, thats all.
Do you use hardox on Typhoon then?
The cluster bot with hardox will then do better in events that alow spinners.

                  Where do you get...

The typhoon robots used hardox for the cutters of both the heavyweight and middleweight. Some of the first machines to use it. All typhoon machines have since retired.

A hardox cluster is possible. You will have to keep the weight in mind at all times though. I would try and get hold of some 4mm hardox if possible. 4mm is plenty strong for a feather and the extra 1mm all over weighs a lot.

I get my hardox from JL steel services based in Stirling (you can find them via google) but I believe there are a few other stockists in Englandshire.

Will i have to travel to Stirling or do they send by post?
I got some advice from Team Invade to use around 3mm Hardox, as that is what they use.
Just out of interest, what did happen to Typhoons?

They can post at cost but you are better speaking to them about it.

JL dont deal with 3.2mm (thinnest you can get), they only deal with 4mm minimum.

Typhoon 2 is still in the same sorry state it was after robogames in the USA a few years back. The team hasnt had time to rebuild it back to its former glory. The other are in various states and used for promotional material etc for our robotic games held each year (check out the educational section on the forum)
