  • Problem; Scorpion XL going spaz!

    Hi guys

Basically, Ive put my robot back together, and for some reason Im having a re-occourance of a problem from Colchester, where the motors switch direction when I press forward on the TX (I press forward and they go forward for a second, then turn backwards and then forwards, then back again, without me changing the directions on the TX). Since it worked fine at Derby and I have since gained a new and more secure areial, Im convinced its not the RX, but the speedo, but I cannot understand why.

Whats just as weird is that when I do a turning movement (left and right) there is no problem, the motors turn the correct what and stay that way.

    Any suggestions ?

    Problem; Scorpion XL going spaz!

Have been testing BOOM! today and Im going to have to switch the Scorpion XL in there for the electronize Wills bringing to Guildford.

If you want to borrow mine then that should be ok. (well BOOM! would only be going about two foot before cutting out on overcurrent anyway!)

At least you can tell if its a tx problem or it is the Scorpion. Plus you can get the bot working and running if you need to.

Out of interest what is it mounted on? I seem to recall you had it in a metal box. It isnt touching the sides or something is it? Also did you put it in the box before Colchester? May be the sticky stuff youre using is conductive to some degree. I am clutching at straws there because otherwise Id have no idea.

          Andy:
The box is actually plastic, its mainly to keep the crud off the controller.

Also, why are you trading in the scorpion ? Id rather take a scorpion over an electronize

Leo: I have the flip wire in the RX but its in the battery socket, acting as the BEC

Im not trading it in, Im using it elsewhere. The problem I have in BOOM is that it keep current limiting even when the motors arent under load which means it doesnt drive at all. I thought this may be a little bit of a set back in the arena. The two electronize are 30A so I thought id stick them in and see where it went.

You dont need the flip to be connected, so may be thats the problem. Take it out and give it a go.

Leave the flip cable out of the RX, it is not needed for BEC. I am pretty sure that will fix your problem.

btw, the BEC feeds the rx through all 3 cables. all positive and negative pins are connected internally so there is no need to have the battery socket on the receiver plugged.

ANY of the receiver sockets can be the battery socket ... the positive and negatives are interlinked on every servo port ....so your already supplying power to the receiver via the other two servo wires.

                  Beaten to it by Leo...

And always because they connect the flip cable on a channel even if they dont use it. When its placed on a controlled channel when they use it (invertable robots) it works like a charm, if they hook up the motors correctly.

If I put the flip channel into Ch 5 in order to run the robot inverted, will that still solve the problem ?

What motors are you using? Make sure the motors are not shorting each other out.

I remember when i first put my EVs in my metal robot and forgot that the motor casing is connecte to one of the motor inputs (negitive normaly) bit like wipe motors... and it did funny things. Sometimes the sidewinder shut down, and sometimes one side wold fly into full fowards.

Be interesting to know what happens if you take the motors out of your robot and place on the floor and then test.

I know its not an XL but im sure the the software might be a bit the same. Now my sidewinder just cuts out and all leds flash letting me know there is a short somewhere.

afaik the problem is already sorted (according to Daves text message anyway). Still good advice, I didnt know that actually.

Ahhhh! Mr Stu, that might not be Daves problem but it may well be BOOM!s problem. I transferred the motors from Testbot where they worked fine (plastic) to BOOM! (metal) where they started failing. I will give that a try.

                              Cheers
