Sabertooth 24v +?
My advice is to follow the manufacturers instructions and limit the NiCads to 18 cells (nominal 21.6V flat, not 20 but as Woody states, 30V absolute maximum. As for motor power, these controllers can handle far more than 35W motors but as with any speed controller, it is always best to match the controller to the motor. If you dont know what the motor takes then its all the more difficult. Gary, there is has to something a miss with your set up that is causing the problem with the Sabretooth but no idea what.

Provided the motors turn at the same speed clockwise as anti-clockwise (drillmotors usually do) A dual motor speed controller such as the Sabretooth will help immensely. Specially after calibration. If you then still have problems driving in a straight line, you should look if one of the motors/geaboxes/wheels is running mor freely or binds more than the other.

Sabertooth 24v +?
i have used the 25a sabertooth with 2x 9.6v drills running on a 12v nicad pack and also use one to run 2 x speed 700 motors aswell, i have also run 4 x 9.6v drills on 2 x 8.4v packs in series, and ive never had a problem, i did buy one that was faulty from the day i brought it, but i have 3 now and they all work fine and never had a problem (even in the spinner) with all the shocks etc.... i have 2 Electronize somewhere with the external relays, they are good and were very reliable for me, but even mixing these on the spektrum i still found the sabertooth is alot smoother for control in my robots, and when i did have a problem with my first sabertooth i found dimensions aftersales service excellent and shipped me out a replacement by courier from the usa,it arrived 3 days later.
oh i nearly forgot, my promotional robot that weighs 70kg and runs on 2 wheel chair motors with slas on 24v, also has one in LOL

Sabertooth 24v +?
originally it was built to promote my own business in a shopping centre in shrewsbury, then by chance someone approached me in the shopping centre asking if i could make one but when i gave them the price i think i scared them off so i hired mine out instead with me present, i have also hired it out to the new maplins that has just opened in shrewsbury (coldcalled them and as it uses alot of their parts they agreed)
i also hire it out to birthday parties (hence not being able to come to fw champs) it has also been used for fundraising at the school my wife works at for special needs kids.
i have to rent a luton at the moment to transport it as its 6ft tall and weighs 70kgs, so once i find a suitable box trailer i will bring it to an event, it has moving head, arms, eyelids,it talks, plays music and is covered in lights, its a really enjoyable project and i am adding new stuff all the time, it has come along way since built. i have a video of it on the camcorder that i will upload to youtube and put a link on here.
