  • Flipper materials & plastic armour

I would just like some thoughts on the main structural element of a flipper.

Psychodelic is currently sat on the bench in bits. Its looking like it will be a low bodied flipper a bit like hydra but lighter and wider.

I was looking at using a 50mm wide x 3-5mm steel bar with a low pressure pneumatic sat behind it. I would then weld a bit of thinner steel on the end to act as a scoop.

The armour will be 1mm steel with a plastic cladding. What type of material is normally used for plastic armour. It only needs to be a few mm thick but it MUST be clear This is more to do with the lighting of the bot rather than anything else Its totally sacrificial as the 1mm steel on Cylon seems to stand up to anything.

No other option, I would say, 5mm Polycarb, or the less UV resistant Vicar.
