  • Speed contollers, LA question

    hi all

just need some clarification here, there has been some talk in this section about different types of speed controller. what i would like to know is do dual controllers offer more straight steering opposed to 2 single controllers?

    Linear Actuaors-

is there a way to work out what force a linear actuaor can offer? as i dont have the exact value- before anyone says to there is no label to look at

    thanks alex

Whether or not a dual motor controller offers a more straight line steering than 2 single ones depends also on the motors used. If the rpm of a motor clockwise is higher than anti-clockwise, you will always have a diversion, since two motors are usually placed facing away from eachother. You could use a gyro to compensate if its really bad. It does help if you have an option to calibrate your dual motor controller so at least from the speed controller side all is equal, something you will not normally have with 2 single controllers.

Cant help you on the linear actuator im afraid.

If there is no label or no product information guess you could try a practical method
      Scales and a immovable object

I really didnt want to give that advice, because Ive had a 3 tonnes linear actuator once, i dont think most scales appreciate that.

          Haha very true
Well maybe you could half the voltage that shouldnt break anything. Then you can work it out from that.
I personally dont know how quick motors will run at half rated voltage but I am sure some one knows.

Normal brushed DC motors run half speed at half voltage and will draw half the amps.

well i try it with a cheap pair of scales i have, and use lees volts

thanks, ill post my results see if they sound reasonable
