  • New FW database (new robots)

well its going to be under 8kg by the looks of it so might be able to have 2, but this one is costing about £500

Sounds like two quite extreme robots from both Craig and Matt.
Hopefully pictures will be posted soon.
Craig, I have no idea how you got a robot with a combination of 12 and 4mm hardox under 8kg. What speedo you planning to use?

Matt that sounds rather mental. What are these gold caddy motors? Sounds more more like a heavy setup.
What batteries are you using? The alarm batteries are usually 12volt SLA around 2amps. How do you plan to use three?

Its the amount of hardox Marco and the fact that i havent weighed it complete (as in not weighed it in finished) but i calculate it to be 7.9kg total
Controllers, im not willing to say just yet same as Anto XP but bigger

Craig- good luck trying to get brushless motors with the start up tourque to power a decent pusher.

Sounds like your going down a dodgy road already- i tryed using small name brushless stuff.. the rating on the box isnt realistic and the speed controllers they suggest with the motors are no were near capable enough for robot use most of the time.

What brand are the motors? Its worth going with a big named highly suggested company that are well known within the RC helicopter or plane market- i tryed some one off motors first in 360- they worked brilliantly.. once. then burnt out. And the speedos the suggested were 1/3rd of the power ive had to upgrade to now.. the first set of speedos went up in smoke before it reached 10rpm.

Im on my 5th and 6th esc now. Brushless stuff for antweights isnt hard.. trying to get it to work in a bigger weight class is a pain.

A picture of Hunter is on my profile.
No, theyre not gold motors, though they do look alike!
              Theyre from golf caddys.
They VERY qucik and strong at the same time.
The alarm batteries are batteries from Security alarms which we got from a nearby shop that does all that stuff.
We found out that with 2 we could last 2 minutes, but if we had 3 then it would last the full 3 minutes.
Its hard to explain, we dont know the exact names of them.

Dave Brusless for drive isnt easy for antweights its taken years to get it working in the antweight, it will work in a feather and Ill prove it in the coming months
If you use standard parts itll blow up but if u learn what ive learned over the last few years youll know how to make it work
Start up shouldnt require masses of current mine has sensors to feed back to the controller to tell it where the motor is in terms of its rotation, this solves the problem of stalling the motors on start up

Craig- your not the first person to do a brushless pusher in the uk- and yes it did work alright - equivilent to astroflights, it had to have custom made speedcontrollers aswell, just seems more hastle then its worth. Especialy if your only having 8kg of weight pushing it down- its never going to have great traction.

Yeah ive seen a few speed-controllers that know what position the armitures are in for start up. Ill talk to you on msn about it all.

Also- To get a brushless setup working correctly you have to be VERY carefull when picking your gear ratio- Dont pick a motor with a high KV rating and treat it like a normal motor- i pressume youve never geared a brushless motor on an ant before.

What problems have you had then?

the first version of the ant would stutter on start up unless you acceled really slowly
then it would draw too much current ive had it fireball 3 lipo packs
this was with outrunner motors and they were useless, they had no gearbox and would litterally do 30mph

new version uses a 30:1 gearbox and inrunner motors which are much better they now act like a decent pair of brushed motors
Im not claiming to be the first person to do it in a feather but i was the first to do it in an ant
Its got a similar gearbox to Tanto HW the wonderfull thing about brushless motors is that when they have sensors you can get the controllers to act like they have traction control

big wheels and planitairy gearboxs then? good luck with it i seriously carnt see you getting 45mph out of it with a 700 size motor though. there normally half the power- if that of one of the motors in 360

Just got back from the factory and did a first spinup of the disc with the new motors and gearbox. Unfortunatly had a problem with the one motor- but managed to get it going on half power with one motor. Spinup time should be just under 2 seconds with both motors working... enjoy; http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zAPaqqKb_vI&feature=channel_pagehttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zAPaqq...e=channel_page

Oh and the entire robot with a 4.4kg disc, 4wd and selfwrighter weighs in at 12.1kg
