    Hi all,
Team BallistiX is planning to make a featherweight flipper. Does anyone have any advice on anything on this subject especially a pneumatic system for the flipper. This is our first time with pneumatics so we would like something fairly simple. Thanks for that,

    James Davies, Team BallistiX

    Hi!

Recipe for good flipper robot is simply cylinder force, valve flow, enough big buffer thank and wery strong and fast drive system with good runnability.

Big diameter cylinder and hig pressure is useless without flow. You can have like 1t of force but with small flow there is no enough speed.

Powerful flipper is useless without strong and fast drive! Try to get center of mass close the wheels. But not too much and not behind the weels. a little front of wheels is good. This you must think if you make 2wd. Center of mass is very important in 2wd! To get maximum grip and runnability.

Look for example how mu robot Purse is done. Cylinder is 65mm diameter and 80mm stroke. Flow is 3000l/min and pressure is 10bar. Buffer capasity is 0,5l. This my flipper was comparable with FP flippers in em competition.

But I think that I put in to my flipper 80mm cylinder with 70mm or 80mm stroke 5000 or 6000l/min flow 1l buffer capasity and with same 10bar pressure. After that i think force and speed will be more that enough. (:

Sorry if there is typos English is not my mother tongue. :P

Best luck with new robot! (:
