Stu and I had a discussion on this. He said that the forward hinged flippers are ineffective, but I countered that there have been successful forward hinged heavy weight robots, such as Firestorm, Mute, Cassius, Gravedigger, and V-Max. I still have my sentiment about forward hinged flippers, thats how I got into Robot Wars. I was flipping through channels, then I turned to the Space Channel and theres Gravedigger flipping Mortis. I am convinced that you can build a successful forward hinged flipper feather robot.

Forward hinged flipper feather.
Forward hinged flippers are generally more of a controlling robot design. They generally dont win by launching the other guy into the roof or OOTA. They win by stacking opponents against the walls or into the pit.
Both designs have their cons and pros, and both can be exceptionally effective. Firestorm would still have to be the best front hinged flipper in my books... It was extremely controlling over the battle when it was on form.

Hi. I am an Aussie flipper builder who is looking at getting some feedback on my rebuilt robot Hellcat. Latest test video here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bPlhbaZLII%20http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bPlhbaZLII
And a link to my build thread on our forum:http://robowars.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=727&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start =0http://robowars.org/forum/viewtopic....er=asc&start=0

as a foward hinge flipper robot owner i can add my 2 pence worth. i was vacant from the robot scene for a while and when i decided to come back i built envy from what robot bits i had left on the shelf. dur to the size of the ram i decided to do front hinge flipper. it took 3 attempts to get the design i was happy with but in the end i think i now have a potential championship winning robot. in the 07 uk champs envy had 4 fights and ootad 5 robots. envy did have design flaws and 1 or 2 minor drive issues but as a front hinge flipper i was well pleased and will be keeping the deaign and shape the same. i am also just building a front hinge feather called envious which wiull be on the circuit shortly.

daniel you wanted some feed back..........i love youe design and it drives well but i do have 1 comment on the flipper. when you put the other robot on to flip it seemed to me that the flipper is working to lift your own robot and the weight of the other robot while also working to flip the other robot. its a cool idea and looks good but i think you might be losing some power lifting the robot aswell as flipping it. nice robot
