I think the rules say that safety devices are not counted in the weight, so you might be ok

i have a 5kg safety teather holding my axe head on.... it just so happens its all that holds the axe head on though, so its more of an axe shaft, but I think it counts as a safety device?

Also, my sharp edge covers are 3mm stainless steel....

I think I had better lose a bit more weight to be sure. I have two removable links together weighing in at 47g which may put me just over 12.2kg.So a few more holes are called for.

Have a look at the picture of Cyberon under my profile. Let me know what you think. Would you rather have a picture with the lid removed ?

                Failsafe indicator

                hi Andrew,
looks nice, but can i offer one or two suggestions at possible weak points?
the ali looks thin, you may have problems with spinners, but as they are not at every enent, that shouldnt be too bad. the front has a very tasty edge for spinners too, but again, only a problem if they are fighting.
it should be an interesting robot to fight with though, best of luck and look forward to fighting it.

ps. a lid off shot would be great

Looks nice. Checkerplate has some advantage over normal alu plating because it is denser in order to get the pattern stamped in. Still it is a bit on the thin side like James Baker said. Have you considered using materials like Polycarbonate? It is lighter than Aluminium, so you can make the armour thicker, and no need to drill holes then to get in the weight limit.

I built the prototype out of 10mm poly but found it too heavy. To be fair, that was a 4 wheel drive with electric flipper. If Ive learnt
anything its to make as small a bot as possible with as thick a metal plate as possible. Also to keep things as simple as possible.I picked a complicated drive system and bought two speed controllers which are too big and over rated for my gold motors....they say you live and learn,
                    still good for target practice!!..........p.s
new lid off pic of Cyberon.

fair play, a very nice first bot
gearing could be lighter, but i bet it works a treat. Very impresed andrew, I think well see some of very nice machines from you in the future, this one included of course.

I might be bringing along the old ploughbot - The new ones getting a re-vamp to sort out its little problems and get it running how it should do.
